I remember once going to my mum’s flute teacher’s house with her when I was about 12… there was a questionably-fashioned cross-stitch on the wall, I think it had a snail on it. But it was the words that it had on it that have stuck with me, and it sums up exactly why music is such a powerful force in my life.
Music washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life.
That, to me, is what it is all about. It’s why I drive an hour (sometimes more) to band practice at least once a week. It’s why I was happy to spend our own money on recording our EP. It’s why I have my iPod with me wherever I go. It’s why I won’t think twice before spending $100 in one go on CDs… when I have it.
I’ve had some pretty shitty times, we all have. It’s always been music that has brought me out of it. And for the good times it’s the music that I remember and hearing it again brings me straight back to that time.
A tough day? I choose the right song and press play and I feel better.
Right now I’ve been spending a lot of time listening to Bon Iver, pg.lost, and my old favourites Coldplay, Jimmy Eat World, and Death Cab for Cutie.
How about you? What music washes away the everyday dust from your soul?

Adz,
Firstly, congrats on the website, it looks absolutely amazing. Work is dragging today because of the excitement of some EP release tonight. Some band from Melbourne, they’re ok, you should get on board…
Music that washes away the everyday dust from my soul?…
City and Colour, you know this. How much did I play it on christmas day?
Been listening to a lot of Jimmy Eat world lately also. I can’t believe it took me this long to appreciate them.
Other bands I’m getting into are a 4 piece originally from Wagga, their name is Ian, check them out on unearthed, amazing live show. Seen them play at Soden’s twice and once at the Tote. Definitely worth it.
Hmmm.. probably the most listened to on my ipod is the latest British India album, Thieves. I’m not afraid or ashamed to admit it.
But probably the best music to wash away the dust from my soul, on any day at the moment, is anything by Brand New.
Enough Said.
Anyway brother from another mother… and father, I’ll see you tonight, after the rise against concert.
Just tricking.
, later.
Thanks Ez. You crazy kid…
Great tip with City & Colour and Brand New. Definitely agree.
And thanks so much for being at the launch, got some more dates to announce soon
